Class Goals

Current classroom goals in Math include every student memorizing their multiplication tables from 0-12 up to 12.  This means 0x1=0, ..., 0x12=0, etc all the way through 0x12=0, ..., 12x12=144.  Memorizing these will drastically improve number sense and the ability to quickly and successfully compute all future math.    

 

How can you help?  You can help drill your kids at home with flashcards or web resources for as long as you have.  You can also encourage your kid to complete extra credit work (previously emailed).

Current classroom goals in reading include improving reading fluency.  Fluency is the ability to clearly and correctly read something and to understand it.

 

How can you help?  You can ask your child about what they are reading for as long or as little time you have.  If they are reading Dogman, ask them what the plot or theme of the chapter was.  If they are reading the newspaper, ask them how the fire department meeting went and who agreed and disagreed on what.  If you can do this consistently, they will know it is coming and want to have an answer ready.
